Hypnotherapy Psychotherapy Counselling Reiki

What's Involved?

Not all sessions will involve hypnotherapy. Some will consist of psychotherapy, counselling, NLP techniques or EMDR and others will incorporate a combination of these.

The length of each session varies but will normally last between 1 and 1 hours.

Free Initial Consultation

If you choose to take up the offer of a free telephone consultation initially, please contact me by email or phone to arrange this. If I am available when you call, it may be possible to talk there and then, however if there is insufficient time available, we can arrange a mutually agreeable time to discuss things further.

No actual therapy is undertaken during this phone consultation. It is provided as an opportunity for you to talk to me, to find out more about me and the therapies I offer, how and why they work, how I can help you and for you to ask any questions you may have.

First Therapy Session

At the first appointment, I will initially ask you to complete a Client Registration form (unless you have already received one prior to the appointment), which gives me some basic details about yourself. Then we spend as much time as is necessary to talk about what it is you'd like to achieve from the sessions and the therapies which may be most suitable for you. When you're ready and feel comfortable with everything we've talked about, we proceed with the therapy itself.

This appointment tends to be longer than subsequent ones owing to the additional background information I need to obtain from you at the start.

There are several different forms of hypnotherapy. At Inspiring Changes, I predominantly use Ericksonian hypnotherapy, which uses a more informal, conversational approach to induce hypnosis. There are no swinging watches or staring into eyes which can sometimes be associated with hypnotherapy! I simply talk to you until your unconscious feels comfortable about entering a deeply relaxed trance state. Therapeutic suggestions and techniques are then used to change the patterns of behaviour, thoughts and feelings, that you no longer wish to have.

Subsequent Therapy Sessions

Depending on the issue(s) you wish to resolve, a client can expect to need between three and six sessions. However, sometimes just one session is sufficient for effective, permanent change. Similarly, there will be some who require further help and therefore more sessions may be required.

In subsequent sessions we will build on the progress made in previous ones. We will discuss what changes have occurred and how your thoughts, feelings and behaviour have changed in-between appointments. Sometimes new issues may come to light and we can work through those as well to ensure that all issues have been resolved, until no further therapy is required.

In some instance, self hypnosis may be taught to the client in order that they can then use this as and when required.

You are under no obligation to continue therapy and may of course, terminate treatment at any time.

I believe that the trust between client and therapist is crucial to the success of the therapeutic process. All information disclosed is treated as confidential, as is any information discussed in reviews. No details are disclosed to any third party without the client's permission.

If in my opinion, however, a client is either a danger to themselves or others, or where a criminal offence has been or is about to be committed, I reserve the right to inform appropriate agencies. In addition, confidentiality can only be offered within legal boundaries. It is my practice wherever possible to inform the client first should this confidentiality need to be breached.

I keep brief notes regarding the sessions which you are entitled to see at any time if you so wish. All notes and records are kept securely locked away within the terms of the Data Protection Act.
